The Goldbeater's Skin

Here in the antic cartoon
Of our souls, orchestral
Reels roll out ecstasies,
Repairs, encounters, cares,
Mirth, thought, love,
It is, it is us
Experiencing earth.
What came ahead,
Above and after
Forgets immensity --is
Lost or found in laughter.

  1. Suze-- In the early 1970s part of my job was restoring antique picture frames. I used gold leaf, which comes in books -- pages separated by parchment-- and it always suggested a precious element hammered thin and contained in skin, like life. I have used it as metaphor, but the goldbeater remains a mystery.

  2. I'm really glad I asked. I enjoyed reading your response. I love the verse on this blog.

  3. Ahhh to mirth! Please and thank you to pouring me a cup. (<--Nothing quite like it when it comes to purging melancholy.)

Please, say hello! I welcome your comments, thoughts, even criticisms!
