The Dove Itself
Third space up the staff, A single note, word or chord That is life --a dove recites itself, All it need say-- and peace Sounds to me like a panpipe C, but there's something more, Something added to the score That is the dove itself.
Kind Emma, doves are among my favorite creatures and, over the years, show less agitation as I come near. They make such flimsy nests that I have fashioned steel and wire rose-trellises for them to build on.
"a panpipe C" - what a lovely, apt description. We've had doves for only a few years now, and at first thought we had a daytime owl. Hah. I like Norma's illustrative photo.
O Jenny, thanks! I hope I got the note right with my increasingly tin ear. Definitely panpipe though. Enjoy your doves --that's the main thing. Will relay compliment to Norma!
"A panpipe C"...oh how utterly delightful a way to describe the beautiful song of a dove! Through your musical words...I can hear it too...so soothing and de-stressing...thank you so much! :))
I finally got a chance to sit down and read some posts. Your poems and Norma's photography: such a nice pair of nerve calming pieces of artistry. God Bless you both.
Beautiful poem. "A dove recites itself . . . " Have you thought of putting your poems in a chapbook?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elizabeth. I haven't published any poetry in nearly 40 years but enjoyed being part of regional readings and little presses in the 1970s.
DeleteListening to the doves is soothing. You describe it very well.
