Ten Bucks

[This image depicts  paper currency, solely a work of the United States Government, is ineligible for US copyright,  therefore in the public domain]

I've written poetry
about 60 years
And earned maybe
Ten bucks for it --
Which provided
Encouragement
To keep at it.
Now I'm an old
Man, but still a
Young poet --not
A bad bargain
For ten bucks.

  1. You are a fantastic poet and worth far more to your readers than ten bucks.

    1. Dear Delores, thank you. With inflation I'm pretty sure I'm worth $10.25, but freedom has to be free.

  2. Your poetry always touches my heart. My heart, even with its imperfections, is worth a million bucks. So therefore, Geo, you are a millionaire.

    1. Even though I've sometimes wished poetry was a more fungible currency, I can't complain. Closeness to your dear heart suffices.

  3. This made me cry, friend Geo … I illustrate books, sing songs and express myself through poems … only too eager to kill all of it by the end of each year … in order to start fresh … PS: I still have my day job … You? Much love, cat.

    1. Me? I've been retired 10 years and poetry has been my friend and solace just as it was when I started working in the late 1960s. Love much appreciated and reciprocated.

  4. Not a bad bargain, indeed. When I write poetry I feel far younger than my years, too. Keep on writing, Geo.! It's excellent for the health!
