Time Travel Poem: My failure to Capture Billy The Kid.

(To Norma)
I stepped out of the
Pumphouse (it was a
Million o'clock in
The morning) and drew
The door behind me,
Confused in light and
Dew --I remembered you.
An early investigation
In this young nation of
Fields and farms: I went
Wisely to the school-
Marm and asked, "What's
Billy The Kid's middle name?"
You said, "A definite article."
I said, "'The?'!"
You said "Duh!"
"How does he outrun the law?"
"With a modifier --always did.
Fools everybody -- it's
'Billy The Other Kid'!"
I said,"You're right, of course."
As I fell off my horse but
Did not fail to mention she
Should return with me to
My century as it really
Could use her attention.

    1. Thanks, dear Arleen. I've been having some trouble with this blog, but it seems to be working now. Poem is a late-night extemporaneous test-effort which, with your response, shows 'Invalid's Workshop' is recovering.

  2. Our century could use a whole lot of attention by many who are now gone into the vastness . . .

A million o'clock in the morning - I love that description.

    1. 0_Jenny, since retiring 11 years ago I've found morning, especially early morning, doesn't exist in reality. Neither does Monday. There's enough inconvenience without including them on clocks and calendars. Through school and jobs, I played along, but there's only a million o'clock in the morning.

  3. This is insanely clever, humorous, and witty. Plus, I love the rhyming of "the" and "duh." You are simply brilliant, Geo.
    Love and light to you.

    1. Dear Robyn, thanks for brightening my day! I get strange enthusiasms when forced to stay home. That time I tried rhyming a definite article. Love and light are therapeutic too, and much appreciated.
