Let Us Be As Choo-choos Now
The line winds among Meadows, mountains, As rhythm moves us Through day and night, Between shadows and Fountains of light, Between trees and boulders. Let us be as choo-choos Now, shoveling steam Over our shoulders.
I really don't want to have to rush the way a train does so I'll sort of let the smoke drift slowly away from me. I like the stereopticon picture. Brian May the guitarist from Queen has a vast collection.
When I joined National Stereoscopic Association, 20+ years ago, there were several well-known names in the membership directory. It's a fascinating hobby.
Oh how I'd love to slip time and return to the golden age of steam railways! Wouldn't it be amazing to dress in period costume and travel is such style? I sometimes think I've been born into the wrong era! lol
Ygraine, I share your wish completely. In fact, earlier this week I asked about a trainride along the Sacramento River offered by the Sacramento Steam Navigation Co. But their locomotive is in the shop undergoing repairs --and may not be well for weeks. Something of the past to look forward to, eh?
They had steam locomotives until quite recently in India. Going from one state to another ( only 300 miles) took us just about a whole day. However we did not feel the time because no one was ever in a rush. Your poem here reminded me of those relaxing times. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Munir. I just learned this morning, California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum are pleased to announce vintage steam locomotive Granite Rock No. 10 will return to service on April 11, 2015. It was built in 1942, only 7 years before I was.
I love this in ways I cannot hope to explain, i just do ... maybe it's the choo-choos, but i love the idea of shoveling steam over our shoulders ... this ethereal life.

DeleteWait, I can can be a choo-choo?! I'll fetch my shovel! =)
ReplyDeleteOk, but we have to remain on railroad tracks in traffic.
DeleteBorn quite recently, I have only had the (half) pleasure of admiring and travelling by trains pulled by electric or diesel run locomotives.
ReplyDeleteSame here,KK, steam locomotives were anachronistic novelties by the time I was born too.

DeleteI could be a choo-choo with a little "training." BAM. There is no place in pun-dom that I will not go. I have no shame.
ReplyDeleteBut you - I like.
I happen to like puns, Cherdo, and I like you too.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Teresa. Measured combustion, metabolism we share with choo-choos, but they get pretty smokestacks.
