Geometreefrogs

We collect on a canna lily leaf.
We compose a triangle --
Equilateral, like our society.
Euclid drew it from his mind.
Evolution left us somewhat
Behind there --we are mostly
Mouth, legs and guts and
Find triangles better-
Managed by our butts.

    1. Kind Emma, thanks. I wrote the poem under Norma's photo in one continuous effort. We were both out in the garden and I pointed the little frogs out to her --she hadn't noticed them. She went indoors for her ipad and I told the frogs she was coming back to photo them. They held still in the lily leaf. They are friendly little things and I always check for their presence in doorsills. If they get indoors, I reach out and they climb into my hand to be transported outside. Have already conveyed your compliment to the photographer.

  3. Ah, but aren't we humans mostly mouth, legs and guts as well? Unfortunately, most of us grownups don't have the cuteness of these little hoppers.

That's an amazing and amusing configuration of Geometreefrogs, and a wonderful new word.

    1. O_Jenny, summer would be intolerable here without these tiny amphibious (YES, they jump in birdbaths and swim around!) friends. I figure, if creatures as defenseless as treefrogs can share my rung on the evolutionary ladder, there's much to be said for peaceful coexistence --and maybe for eating bugs.

  4. Yor geometree frogs are adorable and worthy of a poem all to themselves.

    1. They are delightful little surprises to find in the garden, Delores, and very cooperative when we have to nudge them away from door sills.

  8. Shapes and patterns
    Are always there to comprehend
Just that we are too busy
To see these things and we pretend
    To be mature and busy
When in fact we are aloof and lazy

Good on you for noticing and great cqpture by Norma!

  9. Only you, Geo, could capture that photo so playfully and accurately. Both photo and poem are great. I say this, sitting on my butt in an obtuse sort of amoeba-like fashion. Smiles.

    1. And only you, dear Robyn, could get me thinking, wishing, lily leaves were larger and we humans could group upon them, in peace, with our butts together.

  10. A frog is an animal I absolutely hate. Couldn't bear looking at the pic

    Good verse, though

    1. These are very tiny mature frogs (about 1/2 inch-long), very polite and good-natured. I have granted them insect-hunting rights in the garden. They are nothing like pond-frogs, which are much larger and afraid of humans. I share your aversion only in the matter of toads --which, when I was a child and tried to befriend them, would pee in my hand.

Thank you for your kind comment on my poem. You encourage me. Our beautiful planet needs our thought and compassion now.
